Case Study of
Vocal Damage
Repaired by the Technique
Case Study: Professional Mezzo-Soprano suffering from nodules for 8 years
suddenly suffered a bruise of a vocal cord along with edema of the cords near
the nodule location.
Below, the Singer after only 5 months of work in the David Jones Voice Studio/
New York using the exercises of Alan Lindquest.
The vocal cords are fully recovered. Photos taken in the office of Dr. Gwen
Koravin, laryngologist, New York City.
Upon first working with this singer, I found that the vocal cords were not approximating
correctly. There was extreme breathiness in the tone and the larynx was in a
high position which was continuing to irritate the vocal cords. There was also
little sensation of the 'holding back of breath pressure' with the body support
system. The result was continued hoarseness and lack of healthy solid tone.
After only about 2 months of work, the voice responded beautifully, attaining
more solid and healthy quality to the vocal tone. The body learned quickly how
to hold back the breath pressure so the cords could approximate in a healthy
way.
